How to soundproof padel courts with a roof and reduce noise disturbances

More and more sports clubs are located close to residential areas in cities and towns. This location can cause noise produced during matches and training sessions that can reach the buildings and spaces surrounding the courts.

At Okatent, we have developed specific solutions for this type of project, such as the one at Corbetta Padel & Fitness.

In this blog, we will explain why it is important to reduce noise from padel courts, how to do it, the advantages, and we will explain a real case where we carried out this type of project.

Why is it important to reduce noise from padel courts?

The sound generated during a padel match comes from the impacts of the ball against the walls and glass, the hitting of the rackets, conversations and the players’ own movement.

When the courts are located in an urban area, this sound can travel outside and cause disturbances to homes, offices or other buildings.

How to soundproof padel courts?

To reduce the noise from a padel court, it is not necessarily enough to install a roof over it. It is necessary to study the installation as a whole, including both the upper part and the sides.

An acoustic solution can combine:

  • Roof pressurised with fibre: designed to reduce sound transmission to the outside.
  • Side enclosures with rock wool: help to limit the propagation of noise outside the building.
  • Sound-absorbing materials: allow part of the acoustic energy generated inside to be controlled.
  • Structure design: the dimensions, configuration and distribution of the building.
  • Specific solutions for each project: the level of insulation will depend on the location and characteristics of the club.

To soundproof padel courts in an urban area, it is recommended to study the installation as a whole and not focus only on the type of roof.

Acoustic roofs for padel courts

An acoustic roof for padel courts allows a closed space to be created which, in addition to protecting the courts from weather conditions, incorporates solutions designed to reduce sound transmission.

We have different systems for sports court roofs and specific solutions for projects where acoustic comfort is key.

Padel structures can be manufactured to measure and adapted from a single court to facilities with several courts. Okatent has the Single, Multy and Arenamodels, designed respectively for one court, two courts or multiple courts.

OKCAS FIBER: an acoustic solution for padel clubs

One of the systems developed by Okatent for projects that need to improve acoustic comfort is OKCAS FIBER. It is a solution that incorporates a layer of PET fibre between membranes and is designed to improve the acoustic and thermal insulation of the installation, helping to reduce sound transmission to the outside.

This solution was used in the Corbetta Padel & Fitness (Lombardy, Italy), Padium UK (England), Padelmania (Romania), Rpadel (Barcelona), Padel Paso (USA), La Vida Padel (Madrid) project.

In this project, Okatent installed the OKCAS FIBER system both on the roof and on the side enclosures. The complex has 10 indoor padel courts and the solution was designed to improve the acoustic performance of the installation and reduce noise transmission to the surrounding environment.

Is it possible to reduce the noise of a padel club located in a city?

Yes, although the solution must be studied according to the characteristics of each installation. For this reason, certain elements that influence acoustic performance are:

  • The club’s location,
  • The distance from homes,
  • The number of courts,
  • The configuration of the enclosure
  • The type of enclosure

When a padel club is planned in an urban area, it is recommended to consider acoustic insulation from the early stages of the project.

Side enclosures to reduce noise

The sides of the structure also play an important role when the objective is to improve acoustic insulation.

A completely open court allows sound to propagate directly outside. In contrast, a closed building allows different enclosure solutions to be incorporated to better control acoustic transmission.

Okatent has different options for padel court enclosures, which can help improve playing conditions and indoor comfort. The available options include different types of curtains, enclosures and panels.

Advantages of soundproofing a padel court with a roof

Installing an acoustic solution in a padel club can provide different benefits, especially when the courts are located in urban areas or close to homes.

  • Reduction of disturbances to the surrounding environment
  • Greater indoor acoustic comfort
  • Greater use of the courts
  • Protection of the facilities
  • Possibility of using the courts for more hours and periods of the year
  • A solution adapted to each club

Okatent structures can be customised according to the number of courts, the available dimensions and the characteristics of the project.

Real case: Corbetta Padel & Fitness

A good example of how to approach a project of these characteristics is Corbetta Padel & Fitness, in Lombardy.

It has more than 7,000 m² dedicated to sport and wellbeing and is located in a residential area. For this reason, one of the main challenges of the project was to ensure that this activity did not generate acoustic disturbances in the surrounding area.

Okatent installed a modular roof with the OKCAS FIBER system both on the roof and on the side enclosures, creating a solution specifically aimed at improving acoustic insulation.

Why choose Okatent to soundproof a padel club?

Soundproofing a padel club requires analysing the structure as a whole. The roof, side enclosures, materials and structure of the building must work together to achieve the desired acoustic performance.

The Corbetta Padel & Fitness project is an example of how an acoustic roof for padel courts can be adapted to the needs of a club located in a residential environment.

Frequently asked questions about soundproofing padel courts

Are acoustic solutions suitable for any padel club?

Acoustic solutions can be adapted to different types of facilities, although each project needs to be studied individually.

What is OKCAS FIBER?

OKCAS FIBER is a system of sound-absorbing and reflective acoustic panels developed to significantly reduce sound transmission to the outside. Okatent has used it in padel court projects that need to improve their acoustic insulation.

Does an acoustic roof completely eliminate the noise from padel courts?

The objective is to reduce sound transmission and improve the acoustic comfort of the installation and its surroundings. The result will depend on the roof, the enclosures and the specific characteristics of the project.

How many decibels can a club with 4 padel courts generate?

It depends on factors such as the number of players, the type of court, the environment and the measurement distance. In a club with 4 padel courts operating simultaneously, the noise level can be approximately between 70 and 80 dB in the areas close to the courts.

How much can an acoustic roof reduce noise?

A properly designed acoustic roof can help reduce the propagation of sound to the outside, although the exact reduction depends on the construction solution, the materials and the conditions of the enclosure.
